Bob Raymond, lead guitarist, began the SWING SHIFT jazz combo on Long Island, NY in 1993. It grew out of his earlier group, JAZZ FOUR, entertaining the east end of LI since the middle 1980s. SWING SHIFT worked through the late 1990s at popular LINY night spots and was the regular house band at The Wine Garden in Mattituck for over 3 years. Other SWING SHIFT "house band" venues include the famous Hamptons resort, Gurney's Inn .
When Bob moved to Florida in 2002, he spent over a year in the studio recreating all his SWING SHIFT background arrangements into a midi format to back up his performances with the full sound of his former combo. With the classy vocal stylings of Christine Mariani, SWING SHIFT has worked its musical magic at public & private parties at the Sheraton Sand Key, the Countryside Country Club, the Bayou Club, the Treasure Island Yacht Club, The Wyndham Westshore Hotel-Tampa, East Lake Woodlands Country Club, Heritage Springs Country Club-Trinity and other venues too numerous to mention. Now you can enjoy all the cool swing, jazz, Latin, pop and rock standards of the 1930s-1990s while you dine and dance to SWING SHIFT ...with Christine Mariani !!! Prior to SWING SHIFT, Bob had, since the '60s, worked with other jazz, pop and rock groups, wedding bands, etc. So, here's his tip of the hat to the memories & friendships he cherishes being part of, over the years: THE TUDORS... THE KNIGHTMEN... FRIENDS... THE RANNY REEVE NORTH FORK JAZZ ENSEMBLE... & JAZZ FOUR... "And a very special thanks to those whose friendship and musical tutelage I most appreciate: Bill ('Buck')... Ranny... Jody... Dick... Vinny (Vincenzo)... Cousin Dave & Davey G. ("dagod")... George... & Craig !"
Some other facts about Bob: Bob began his post-college career as an actor. He once performed in summer stock with a cast that included Carly Simon (who was only 15 years old at the time). When Bob was in his early 20s, his rock foursome, the Tudors, worked as the house band one summer at a Lido Beach, NY beach resort. They opened for and then backed up hot acts of the time including the Isley Brothers. "We nearly got crushed against the stage back wall when the teenagers rushed the Isleys while they performed their frantic hit version of 'Shout' !" Bob was on the air quite a bit as a radio personality/disc jockey on Long Island, NY. In the 1990s, he syndicated a weekly nostalgia music radio show called "Once Upon A Tune". His career also included many years as an educator both in public schools and on the college level.
